How to Open Roshan Digital Account for Foreign Nationals

The following steps are required to open the Roshan Digital Account (RDA) in Pakistan:

  • Provide Basic Information.
  • Enter the OTP received on your email address & provide the account opening information.
  • Choose the type of Digital Account: A Foreign Currency Account or a Pak Rupee Account.
  • Upload the documents mentioned in "required documents" and a Live Photo.
  • Receive confirmation in the provided email with a reference number.
  • The account opening confirmation will be emailed within 2 working days.

Documents Required for Roshan Digital Account Registration

The following scanned documents are required for the registration of AL Habib Roshan Digital Account in Pakistan:

  • Customer's Foreign ID Card
  • Customer Passport (first 2 pages)
  • Specimen Signature (scanned on a white page)
  • Proof of profession and Source of income / Funds (For example: For salaried individuals; employment letter, salary slip or bank account statement & for business persons; business registration document, business letterhead or bank account statement, etc.)

    An individual/Joint account for Non-Resident Pakistanis, Foreign Nationals, and Foreign Legal Entities with the convenience of account opening in Pakistan digitally from across the globe.

  • Yes, State Bank of Pakistan through its vide EPD Circular Letter No. 05 revised para of Chapter 6 & 8 of 2026 regarding “Foreign Currency Account and Non-Resident Rupee Account” & BPRD Circular Letter No. 09 of 2026 regarding “Consolidated Customer Onboarding Framework” of March 24, 2026, has issued instruction, in which SBP has instructed all banks & authorize dealers to open the accounts of Non-Residents Individual(s) & juridical persons in Pakistan.

  • An account opening confirmation email will be sent to the customer's registered email address provided at the time of account opening.

  • Accounts are fully repatriable which includes profit earned from permissible investments as per following terms.

    • Remittances and payments outside Pakistan to the extent of balances available in the account, without any prior approval from the bank or the State Bank.
  • Account can only be fed by Remittances received from abroad through banking channels & for NRVA* can also be fed through foreign correspondent individuals under their home remittance agency agreements with the Bank.

    For your ease & convenience the remittances can be sent through Bank AL Habib Correspondence Banks or Home Remittance Channels.

    • Bank AL Habib does not charge AL Habib Roshan Digital Account (RDA) customers for incoming remittances. However, correspondent bank charges may apply.

  • No withholding tax on cash withdrawals or account-to-account transfer by Foreign National Individual(s).
    However, in investment Taxation of interest income, dividend income and capital gains on securities of the non-resident persons shall be governed according to conditions as provided in the treaty between Pakistan and country of residence of the non-resident person.

    • Scanned copies of at least the following documents to open an account:
    • Foreign ID (Front & Back) or Passport (First 2 Pages) *
    • Signature scanned on white paper
    • Proof of profession and source of income/ funds. For example, one of the following documents:
      • For Salaried Individuals: employment letter, salary slip.
      • For Business Persons: Business registration document.
    • Live Photo: Digital photo that would be taken at the time of filling the form and uploaded live.
    • * Attestation of Identity Document from third party regulated financial institutions, including attestations from their foreign correspondent banks, parent banking company, overseas branches / banking subsidiaries etc.

    • Remittances received from abroad through banking channel.
    • Transfer of funds from account holders’ own *FCVA and NRVA within Bank AL Habib.
    • Proceeds from disinvestment/sale/maturity and profit/rent/dividend/interest on securities/ properties/ shares/ units of funds/ deposits received on account of investments made from the account as mentioned below.
    • Reversal of any incorrect/wrong debit in the account. *Foreign Currency Value Account
    • Profit and premature /maturity proceeds of Pakistan Banao Certificates (PBCs) into the PBC holder’s own NRVA.

    AL Habib Roshan Digital Account (PKR) Debits:

    • Investments in the following, provided that the relevant laws, rules and regulations permit such investment:
      • Registered Debt securities of Government of Pakistan (T-bills, PIBs, Sukuk and any other registered debt securities of the government including CDNS securities).
      • Investment in shares via GEM quoted on the stock exchange(s) in Pakistan.
    • Residential and commercial real estates, either through self-financing or bank’s financing in Pakistan provided that in case of bank financing the repayment of loan should be made through NRVA.
    • Term /Remunerative deposit products of Bank AL Habib maintaining the account.
    • Investment in units of funds quoted at Stock Exchange and units of mutual funds registered as Open End Schemes (OES) under management of Asset Management Companies (AMCs) licensed by SECP to provide asset management services.
    • Contribution in units of Pension Fund authorized in terms of VPS Rules, under the management of Pension Fund Managers (PFMs) registered with Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

    AL Habib Roshan Digital Account (FCY) Credits:

    • Remittances received from abroad through banking channels.
    • Transfer of funds from his/her own NRP Rupee Value Account (NRVA) within BAHL.
    • Profit/interest on the permissible investments made from the account.
    • Dis-investment proceeds from the permissible investments made from the account.
    • Profit and premature/ maturity proceeds of Pakistan Banao Certificates (PBCs) into the PBC holder’s own FCVA.
    • Reversal of any incorrect debit in the account.

    AL Habib Roshan Digital Account (FCY) Debits:

    • Investment in permissible securities provided that the relevant laws/regulations permit such investment, as under:
      • Government of Pakistan’s registered debt securities denominated in FCY only.
      • Term deposit/remunerative product scheme, denominated in FCY, within BAHL. The funds for the above investments shall be transferred by the Bank only in the eligible products, through the instructions received from the account holder in this behalf.
    • Transfer of funds to account holder’s own NRVA within BAHL.
    • Transfer to other FCY, PKR account and non-resident Rupee account – non-repatriable with any bank in Pakistan.
    • Remittances and payments outside Pakistan to the extent of balances available in the account, without any prior approval from the bank or the State Bank.
    • Cash withdrawal in foreign currency or in equivalent local currency.
    • Any payment in PKR to any person resident in Pakistan. However, any amount so paid shall not be allowed to be credited back into the account.
    • Reversal of any incorrect /wrong credit entry.
  • Yes, this facility is available on accounts through Netbanking and Mobilebanking.

  • Investor will submit the request through Bank AL Habib Roshan Digital Account web page and provide investment details such as; account no, tenure, currency and amount to be invested. Funds will be debited from customers Roshan Digital Account for onward purchasing or certificate from SBP.

  • The Customer will request a booking of the desired TDR of Bank AL Habib through his registered email address at the following email address: RDA@bankalhabib.com the staff at the Roshan Digital Unit (RDU) will assist the customer in booking his/her desired TDR.

  • No, in terms of Section 3(1)(a)(b) of the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance, 1980, read with Rule 24-A of the Zakat Collection & Refund Rules, 1981, compulsory deduction of Zakat is not applicable on all RDA (FCVA, NRVA).

  • As per EPD Circular Letter No. 11 of 2026 following will be the process for Legacies and other Distributions of Assets from the Estate of Deceased Persons:

    Applications covering remittance of legacies and other distributions from estates of deceased persons due to beneficiary’s resident outside Pakistan should be referred to the State Bank for consideration. Such applications should be made by letter, which should be accompanied by the following documents and information:

    • Name, nationality and place of residence of the deceased at the time of his death. If the deceased person was resident of Pakistan, the period of such residence should be stated.
    • A copy of the relative clauses in the Will after Probate has been granted or if the deceased died intestate, in the Letters of Administration or Succession Certificate, issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) or the court, duly authenticated by the issuing authority, a Notary Public, , Judge or Magistrate, in Pakistan or in the country of residence of the deceased if he died abroad.
    • A full statement of the assets in Pakistan of the deceased.

    Any amounts which are not allowed to be remitted to the non-resident beneficiaries will be permitted by the State Bank to be credited to a blocked account in the name of the executor or administrator with a bank in Pakistan. If any security, shares and real estate which have been specifically bequeathed to persons resident outside Pakistan are to be transferred to such beneficiaries, the applications should also contain full particulars of such securities, shares and real estate.
